Transitional Housing for Homeless Youth
SKYS is a 2-story, 7-unit residence for homeless youth that includes a commons and administrative offices. The residential units are 375-400 SF with kitchens and bathrooms.
The design concept blends residential and community center elements to evoke a youthful, welcoming home. The central commons and entry trellis with exterior patio each define spaces where youth can informally gather and relax in safe and welcoming settings.
The project scope included schematic design for the funding submittal.
Feasibility Study
The original site was located on a narrow lot, separate from the main Nexus campus. Zoning and site analysis found that the site was too small for the required parking and SAGE recommended relocating the project to the main Nexus campus where there is sufficient property to meet the program and parking needs.
Building Community
The main Nexus campus is adjacent to the Auburn Public Library and Youth Center, providing SKYS with the benefits of those community resources as well as providing synergies with the existing Nexus Campus youth programs.
