Master Planning Study
SAGE Architectural Alliance was retained by Seattle Chinatown International District Preservation & Development Authority (SCIPDA) to explore the development potential of a critical block at the heart of the International District.
Community Participation and Visioning Workshops
SAGE led community visioning workshops where participants brainstormed and shared ideas about the use of the important block. Community members were encouraged to actively diagram their ideas. Community visioning discussions evolved toward the community leaders calling for the block to house an international entertainment and cultural center.
Foundation for Future Development
SAGE worked closely with Heartland who produced a financial analysis of a range of use scenarios. Analysis showed that it was not possible to expect to finance the best and highest use for the properties in the current depressed market but initial, small-scale projects could lay a foundation that would invite appropriate future development. SAGE developed conceptual ideas for a night market at one corner opposite a proposed street-car stop and restaurant-theater partnership overlooking the future cultural center plaza.
